Sydney Underground Film Festival starts this week!

04/09/2012

Movie lovers, movie weirdos, movie buffs and everyone in between, Sticky Trigger is proud to announce we will be covering the amazing Sydney Underground Film Festival this week. The film festival, now in it's sixth year, is bigger and better than ever before. With some amazing international talent, such as Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie and Bobcat Goldthwaite's cult hit, God Bless America will be bookending the film. Tim and Eric is showing on Thursday night and will kick off the festival, there is another showing on Sunday afternoon at 5pm.

God Bless America, which is about a man who is diagnosed with cancer and decides to go on a pop culture rampage by killing reality show wannabes, media commentators and just the regular annoying people in society, you know like people who speak loudly in movies.

As far as homegrown talent goes, the internet sensation Mr. Doodleburger with his video mashups of Summer Bay's finest, Alf Stewart going on a tourette filled journey around the once humble soap opera set. Doodleburger will be live and in the house on Saturday night at 8pm taking questions and no prisoners.

But it's not just the weird and wonderful, serious documentaries such as a wonderful expose on the world's most popular internet activists. Wikileaks: Secrets and Lies is about everyone's favourite Aussie activist, Julian Assange and all the madness surrounding the website. The film is showing at 1pm in the main cinema on Sunday.

Also Francophrenia, an entire documentary about James Franco and his several creative projects he started undertaking from 2008 onward, including his own film, his stint on Soap Opera, General Hospital and even his murderous art installations. Francophrenia is showing at 4pm on Saturday and 1pm on Sunday.

Zero Killed is the one I'm most intrigued by about director Michal Kosakowski who got a group of people together who had violent fantasies and set them the task for creating said fantasies into short films, they had to make themselves and act in them. What happens sounds astounding and intriguing.

And obviously what would a cult film festival be without the B-Movies. I don't want to spoil or kick up your interests too high for anything but I'll give you the title of four films and their directors and I'm sure you can already imagine what they're about.

President Wolfman (directed by Mike Davis, writer of Sex Galaxy and Pervert!)

Disco Exorcist (directed by Richard Griffin, director of Necroville, Nun of That and Splatter Disco)

The Fourth Dimension (directed by Harmony Korine of Gummo and Trash Humpers fame)

Sexually Frank (directed by Frankie Frain, director of I Need to Lose Ten Pounds)

For more information on flicks and events from anything from Donkey Lovers, Animation Fornication, the short films and even a Jeff Keen Retrospective can be found right here or on the cool as hell Sydney Underground Film Festival site.

The festival will be at the Factory Theatre, 105 Victoria Rd, Marrickville. Can't miss it, it's the big silver shed where all those murders happened...you know, those murders. But seriously, there were no murders, but a whole lot of creativity and you would regret missing this film festival.
