Trials Evolution: Origin of Pain (DLC)

16/10/2012

RedLynx’s Trials Evolution was released in April and quickly become one of the fastest and top selling games on the Xbox Live Arcade, along with it also coming many glorious reviews and being dubbed by many as the perfect downloadable title. RedLynx has just released the first DLC called ‘Origin of Pain,’ which greatly expands the games already vast content.

What do I get and why do I want it?
Origin of Pain certainly delivers a big bang for your buck by giving you 24 tracks to race on for the singleplayer and multiplayer, 2 new skill games and 10 new supercross tracks which in turn has doubled the amount of 4 player supercross tracks to play on.

The 24 new tracks have a massive range of levels with very different themes, ranging from the regular tranquil and urban areas, to a carnival and a supersized toy box. Just like the regular levels these are set out in tiered sets with the further you go the more difficult tracks get. The 10 new supercross tracks are also well done and a great addition for multiplayer, especially if you are all for local multiplayer!

You can access the new tracks in single player via the new island

The two new skill games are a great addition with the first one having the objective off landing the closest to the center of the targets after being shot out of the cannon and bailing off your bike for the extra distance. There are three rounds in which after each one the target moves much further away and the cannon packs an extra punch for more distance. The second skill game is a height climber, where the goal is to make it as higher up the level as possible by jumping building to building and ramp to ramp, which can prove to be rather difficult.

Aside from the new tracks there are also one hundred new items for the track editor, so if you fancy yourself a creative track maker, then this will be a welcome addition for you. Also for the first time in a Trials game, you can ride a BMX to tackle the tracks on which is speedy and lightweight, and does actually feel different to use from the motorbikes. There is also a sizeable new range of helmets which can set you back a pretty penny if you fancy them, and if you like tops, there are two new shirts free to use straight up.

If I was a millionaire, I would want to look like a squirrel too!

How much does it cost?
Origins of Pain will only set you back 400 Microsoft Points, which while that may seem like a lot for an arcade title, the sheer amount of content on offer here is easily more than you would get from most full arcade games themself.

Pros

  • Only 400MSP
  • Loads of new content
  • BMX is as fun as it sounds
  • Adds in even more replayability

Conclusion – Is it worth it?
For only 400 MSP it is certainly well worth it, already having great replayability, this certainly adds a lot onto the game, and bringing nothing negative to the table but some extreme challenge which will test your tolerance levels, this is a must buy for anyone who enjoys the game already!

Score: 10/10
